While the rich Swedish family celebrates the birthday of its patriarch Alexandre (Erland Josephson, screaming and whispered), the news of the World War II epidemic reached their distant Baltic island – and the happy atmosphere turned into horror. The family descends into a state of psychological devastation, which brilliantly mentioned the striking palette of the Luminky Grays of Tarkovsky, was washed by the dark country around their house.
